More Than Plenty!
This is so nice.
The cabinet man told us he had some cabinets that he was tearing out of another job that were way better than our old ones that we were planning to hang in the garage. He said we could have them. As in FREE!
So yesterday they brought them over in a big moving truck and WOW!! there were 19 of them! They even carried them all downstairs for us. Since they were able to take out the old ones without tearing them up we can still use them in the garage AND have these for downstairs!
We're going to use 2 of them to make a computer desk. Some of them are hanging ones that we can use in the laundry room, book room, or over the computer area. We're using 2 more to make another desk in the book room for craft projects. And there are more besides that!
My new kitchen cabinets are beautiful! Really really beautiful. They won't be completely done until tomorrow...maybe even Monday. I'm still working on those pix.

Sowing Generously
"Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. ...And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all time, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." 2Cor 9: 6 & 8
This principle of sowing is reaping is true in parenting. I want to sow generously with my family. Since I tend to lean toward the selfish side, I really have to pray and work at this. To me, sowing generously means to unselfishly give my time, my listening ear, my love, and my prayers to my kids. It means to give Mayfee *another* drink without rolling my eyes even though it is always at an inconvenient time when he asks. It means giving the benefit of the doubt and not walking into the room looking for the worst even though I am met with screaming and crying. And it means answering the never-ending "mommy, mommy" patiently and sweetly even though I'd rather not. Like I said, all of these do not come to me naturally and I need the grace of God to carry it through.
But that's what the next verse is all about. He says that He is able to have all grace abound to me so that I will have all that I need to abound in this good work. Thank you God!
Now comes the good part....reaping! What does that mean? To me, it means kids that obey from their hearts because they love me and not just so they won't get in trouble. It means kids that leave me sweet notes in my "mailbox". It means that my adult kids will someday call me and ask me what I think. It means that they'll bring my grand babies over A LOT and visit me all the time. It means that they will always include me in their lives generously even though my work with them is officially "done".

Tis Snowing!!
Pretty Pretty! We woke up to about 3-4 inches. The kids played out all morning and are schooling in the afternoon. Isn't homeschooling convenient? It was a good plan since most of it has already melted. The snowman's nose has melted off.
Today is my "office day". That means I'm working on my menu/grocery list for next week, stuff that has to go to the post office, business type calls, school planning, etc. It has helped me a lot to have a certain day set aside for this. I can procrastinate on these things like no other. With my scheduled time, I actually get these things done.
Day 3 of cabinet installation. Guys come later to measure counter tops. Should be done Friday. Pix to come.

The flylady thing is teaching me a new way to work. I've always been slow to start something if I only have a few minutes. I'd rather carve out a lump of time and knock it all out at once. The problem is that I don't usually have a big chunk of time to devote to any one particular thing. So....I don't start at all.

If you're not familiar and really don't care that much it's basically just a housecleaning/organization plan. It teaches you to work in 15 minute increments and just to start wherever you are.
I've been amazed at how much I can actually get done in only 15 minutes. Today I organized the "decor" items that were piled in the living room after unpacking the boxes. I didn't know where else to put them. Anyway, I actually made progress. No, I didn't finish but I didn't care. I started it knowing that I was only going to do it for 15 minutes and whatever got done would be more than not doing it at all.

Teaching Jes To Read
is never boring. He's a hilarious little guy. He makes up a sentence to go with every word he sounds out. Here's our lesson today....
The word is GATE.

Hey Momma, when I grow up I'm going to protect you from snakes.
Next word is HOT.
Jes: Like...Don't touch the oven cuz it's hot. Hey Momma, you remember that time that you told me not to touch the stove and I did it and burned my finger? That was HOT!"
Now he decides that pointing to the words with his fingers is boring and he finishes the lesson pointing with his toes instead. Talking the whole time about whatever pops into his head, he likes learning to read. It sure takes a long time though.

2 Cor 3:18
"and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit." 2 Cor 3:13
Isn't it amazing that we can actually reflect the Lord's glory as in a mirror? So when people look at us is it as though they are looking at a reflection of the Lord himself? I'm in awe that it is even possible! But God says it is true. Furthermore, we are constantly in the process of being transformed into his likeness more and more.
My son got some transformers for his b-day. It looks just like an ordinary plastic car....but NO! it transforms into a super cool robot! Similarly, God transforms us into something even better than a super cool robot....into the likeness of His Son.
Wonderful! So although I look just like an ordinary lump of clay, I am actually being shaped for noble purpose by the hand of the Potter.
My job as a mom is awesome. I have the opportunity to reflect the Lord's glory to my children every day. When they see me do they see Jesus? Or do they see just ordinary me that might fly off the handle like a lunatic if things don't go my way? Yikes. This thought spurs me on to get up on time and read my Bible before the busy day starts. I pray that our family will be continually transformed with His ever-increasing glory.

Sweet Nuggets Of Time
Remember when the wise men visited Jesus and the Bible says "Mary treasured these things in her heart"? Being a mom helps me to know exactly how she felt. So often I wish that I could just freeze time in that very moment and have it forever. Some times are just so sweet. Here are a few of today.....
~Playing cars with Mayfee on the hard floor and laughing when they rolled under the couch. Even though the house was still full of people it felt like it was just the two of us.
~Watching Paw Paw and Mally reading on the couch.
~Comforting Zekey when he bonked his head on the floor and him almost falling asleep on my chest. Ahh, it's been awhile since he's done that.
~Listening to CT tell me about his soccer games today. Hopefully next time I'll get to go.
~Watching Mom teach LB how to quilt....and correct my mistakes when I tried to teach her to cut!
~Helping write a story with Mom, Meggy, and Lane. Oh yes, the giant monkeys were my addition.
~Receiving a beautiful construction paper necklace from Jes. He even drew diamonds on it for me. You should've seen his proud smile when I wore it and told him how pretty it was.
I love days like this. It's been a good full day.

There is one room in the house that I really feel at home in. It is a tiny little room with no closet. It is one of the only rooms downstairs that has a light. I call it the book room b/c it is where we will keep all our books and games. We have 2 full bookcases in there but still most of the books are piled up all over the floor waiting for "real" shelves. Even in the midst of the mess I like to be in there, looking around, moving piles, thinking of what it will look like later.
My books have been packed for so long and it's nice to uncover them. Tonight I had a chance to look through my granddaddy's Bible while I was in there. Here is something he wrote in the back....
"Do not set in motion if you can not control it. ----- This thought came about in regard to rolling a tire down hill toward someone's house." 10-13-91
I laughed as I read this. I can just imagine that "OH NO!!!" feeling as he was trying to chase down an out-of-control tire.

The Swish and Swipe
Ok, I'm moving closer and closer to the flylady thing everyday even though I thought I wouldn't. I've adopted the Swish and Swipe routine. If you're not familiar with it, basically you swish the toilet every morning while you're in the bathroom and swipe down the sink and countertop. This keeps the bathroom nice and clean everyday until your big cleaning day in there. So for the swipe part of it I made these wipes. It's a modified version of my homemade baby wipes. They work great. I'll just have to be careful not to get them mixed up!
1 roll of Viva paper towels cut in 1/2
1/2 C. Lysol cleaner...or Pine Sol or Mr. Clean or whatever.
1 1/2 C. water.
Mix the liquids and pour over the paper towels. Store in an air-tight container. Pull out the cardboard tube after an hour or so and pull wipes from the middle. Easy!!

Yay! The torn up part of the roof is fixed! Now the house is sealed up for the snow. There is still much much to do as far as that part of the roof is concerned, but the part we tore down is fixed.
2 more doors are completely done. That makes 3 in all.
I bought a closet organizer thingy.
I filled up the new bookcase. It helped but it just won't do. We'll need to build shelves that go across the whole wall.
I had #1 empty the chest in the kitchen to take downstairs. We'll put a tv and movies in it.
My nephew is staying with us a couple of days to help us out. Honey is putting together another bed downstairs.
New cabinets MONDAY!!!
My mother-in-law totally reorganized the pantry. It was such a mess.
My father-in-law used his big saw to cut 10 rolls of paper towels in 1/2. I use them to make baby wipes. Now I won't have to fight with the knife and do it by hand.
Snow tomorrow night!!!

Happy Birthday Birdie Pie!
Really it's not till Thanksgiving day but I'm pretty busy between now and then so I thought I'd write about her now.
She'll be TWO 2222!!! Meaning she'll not be one anymore. sniff, sniff. Pretty pretty baby girl. I'm so glad she's mine.
~She's very girly but can hold her own against her brothers.
~She doesn't play with toys. Just now is she interested in something other than what I'm doing. Now she likes dolls and the kitchen set.
~She's a great talker. Very clear and easy to understand.
~She can be a bit sassy.
~She hates peanut butter.
~She has great manners. .....Well that is if she likes you. We'd had some trouble with friendliness.
~Her favorite words..."hold you please. Juice please."
~She can count. She stays on track up to 9 then runs out of numbers and starts over in no particular order.
~She always wants Meggy to hold her hand in bed. For good reason, she falls out of the bed often.
~Funny hair. One layer is curly, one layer is straight.
~Potty chair? Not a chance!!
Since she doesn't care for toys and she has more than enough books, it's very hard to think of a present for her. I don't want to buy something just for the sake of buying something. I've ordered a new childrens' Bible that I've been wanting them to have. She'll like it and her siblings will enjoy it too.
We'll have Thanksgiving at Emo's and I'll take over Nana's pasta salad for her. That's her fave. We're making a pink cake with a pink "2" candle. This is our first b-day in our new house.

Yesterday
I made a big crockpot full of taco meat for a full day of family. We had 9 extra besides our own 11. It also fed the neighbor who wasn't feeling very well. We even have left overs!
CT had 2 indoor soccer games. Won one, lost one (barely). Indoor soccer is fun to watch.
Honey and his dad got a lot of work done on the roof. Progress!
Got a free bookshelf from Craigslist thanks to my brother-in law and sister-in-law.
I baked a bunt. I've never done it before b/c I didn't have one of those pans. Things have changed.....I got one at Goodwill for $2. It came out perfectly.

Mil took the girls to Savers and bought them new clothes. We're going to a benefit tea and have to dress up. With Thanksgiving that means I'll have to dress up twice in the same week! Unheard of.
I ate way too much sugar.
Baby oil and a bath did the trick. The rock came out! Good idea Dad.
My big kids went to a game night at church with my nephews. Big fun. Their team won. We got new hats and shirts.

Top 10
I love making new schedules. I have to do it ever so often when we outgrow our current one. It is also fun to look back at my old schedules and see how we've changed throughout the years. I have lots of them. Now since I have so many more to manage my schedule must be more detailed than it used to be. I have to write everything down!
I'm toying with the idea of starting the flylady thing. I've played with it for a long time off and on, reading on the web site and getting the e-mails. But this time I might do it for real. I need the book. My library has a few copies and the last time I checked it had several holds on it. I guess everyone has the same idea.
I start my new schedule working by praying and asking God to define my priorities. Here is a list of my new top ten priorities for my little ones. I call it my "Top Ten For Tots"....
1. Pray for them. Night time is usually my best time for this. Sometimes I'm too tired though so I can't always count on it. I pray for them as I'm folding their clothes. A new for me is praying for them when I tie their shoes...praying that they will have what God calls "beautiful feet that bring good news", praying that their feet follow ways that are firm, and that they will not stumble. I'm not in a hurry to teach shoe tying.
2. Smile and be cheerful for them. Set the example for joy, peace, and thanksgiving. Enjoy my work. "Where there are no oxen the manger is empty, but with the strength of an ox comes an abundant harvest." (I like this Proverb.)
3. Read to them. Not only for the sake of reading but also for the sake of sitting and cuddling and spending quiet time together.
4. Recite Scripture and memorize together.
5. Teach them meaningful work.
6. Play with them/Listen to them. My little ones are easy to play with but big ones can be too. I like to read the books my girls suggest to me. Or to watch a movie that they like. My older son is a huge game player and the only way I have a chance against him at foosball is to make him play one handed-left handed. He likes to show me his coin collection and where he puts certain coins. All of my kids like to chat. I'm trying to be a good listener.
7. Take them outside. Oh, this is hard! I tend to be a stay-in-the-house type. Being outside is good for me and it delights my little ones when I watch them show off something new.
8. Help them love others and put others first.
9. Teach them good manners.
10. Hug them and kiss them and touch them!

New Duties
Working on a new schedule and making some changes.
Here's our new kitchen clean up list:
Bird: collect and throw away napkins
Mayfee Boy: clear the table
Jes: wipe table and high chairs
J-Man: put away left overs and take out the trash
LB: Clean all appliances
CT: Dry dishes and wipe counters
Lane and Meggy: They will switch off. One will do dishes and clean the sink while the other one is official overseer and floor cleaner. The overseer part of the job is helping the little ones with their responsibilities and checking the whole kitchen when everyone is finished. They've decided to switch out every other day.
Everyone helps unload the dishwasher.
Speaking of kitchen....The new cabinets and counter tops come the Monday after Thanksgiving! It'll only take 4 days of installation. Then we can finish unpacking the kitchen!

The overseer part of the job is helping the little ones with their responsibilities and checking the whole kitchen when everyone is finished. They've decided to switch out every other day.
Everyone helps unload the dishwasher.
Speaking of kitchen....The new cabinets and counter tops come the Monday after Thanksgiving! It'll only take 4 days of installation. Then we can finish unpacking the kitchen!

I've decided that it's time for me to tackle the whole chicken. Not boneless skinless. The whole icky slimy thing. My daughter jumped in, "Mom, last time you tried this you told me to remind you next time that it is a bad idea." mmmmm....I think I do remember something like that. But anyway, it seems like I should be mature enough to handle this without feeling like I'm going to lose my lunch down the sink.
I bought two. They sat in the fridge for a couple of days while I worked up my nerve. I took them to the sink and all the chicken juice (ewww!) ran down to the end of the bag. So I grab my scissors and cut the plastic. Somehow it squirted BACKWARDS onto ME!! I don't know how that could even happen. Where's my apron when I need it?
I washed them in the sink and took a peek in the business end. I know from experience that turkeys have bags of extra stuff in there (guts, I guess) that you're supposed to take out. The last time I cooked a turkey, I didn't know that. I cooked it in there. Who knew? Well, I wasn't going to fall for that again and I didn't know if chickens had guts in there. I know that you can put spices and such in there but that was just more than I could do.
I read the directions, seasoned them.... although I don't know why cause we're not going to eat that skin part anyway...and stuck them in the oven. MMMM....yummy smell in a couple of hours and when I took them out they looked much better than when I put them in.
I took them to the table expecting to hear the "ooohhhs and ahhhhs" especially from Honey who likes chicken. I gave him the knife and fork. He poked around on them for a minute before he broke the news: They're upside down!
Man, there's more to cooking a chicken than you'd think.

Cute Boys
The other day #1 dressed 6yo, 4yo, and 3yo up as pirates complete with face paint! Who could resist getting the camera out?
A few days later we gave Zekey a bath in the sink. He is so adorable!!!
