After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. "Follow me," Jesus said to him, and Levi got up, left everything and followed him. Luke 5:27-28
Don't you just love the way that Levi (Matthew) responded to Jesus? He got up, left everything, and followed. Except for a lucrative career, the Bible doesn't give detail as to what everything was for Matthew. He could not have known all that was in store for him, but in faith, Matthew responded immediately without hesitation.
The next part is my favorite.
Luke 5:29 "Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them."
Without embarrassment or fear of man, he invited all his fellow tax collectors over for dinner and introduced them to his Jesus. Evangelism at its finest and hospitality to boot!
Matthew was a man of action, unconcerned with the opinion of man. Jesus called him, loved him, saved him, and allowed him a tremendous honor - to pen the gospel of Matthew that his experience with the Lord could shape the generations to follow.
