Hungering and Thirsting

Sermon Notes from Sunday...

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." Matt 5:6

Hungering and thirsting is not something our culture embraces. Instead, our world's attitude is "blessed is the person who has no needs."

We want to be self-sufficient, independent, with no strings attached.
But God wants us to trust Him daily, just as he taught the Israelites with their daily supply of manna.

The definition of righteousness as it is used here is: our right living before God. Having a right heart and attitude. Matt 5:20

When we hunger and thirst for the righteousness of God there is no diminishing return. It leads to satisfaction.

Jesus had decisions to make. They were not based on what would bring Him the greatest amount of happiness, but on what the Father wanted. "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matt 6:33

Hear the whole sermon here. Chris says it better than I do.
