Don't forget the cut off is early this month! And there is no delivery for December so you might wanna order extra to get you through till the end of January.
I was so excited to see that the cases of Sucanat were 15% off!
I also bought 20# apples
25# carrots
3 gallons of honey
5# cashews
oats, wheat, salt
flax seed
hemp seed
and some gluten free stuff
I think I'm almost set for holiday baking. I also ordered a gallon of palm shortening and a gallon of agave nectar. (I love it when I get food in the mail!) Aldi has pumpkin now so I bought 2 cases yesterday and that should do it for awhile. Now I just need a coconut oil sale and I'll be set!
This morning I made pumpkin smoothies from a recipe I got from Pinterest.
1 cup non-dairy milk – I used unsweetened almond
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 banana
1 tbsp raisins or 1/2 tsp maple syrup - I used a tablespoon for a double batch
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground ginger
pinch ground nutmeg
pinch ground cloves
pinch all spice
Directions
Place everything but whipped topping in the blender.
Blend until smooth
Most of the kids loved these. They are very filling and nutritious and perfect for breakfast. It also has a coconut whipped cream you can use for the top but I didn't get that fancy....too early in the morning.

Fixed!
The washing machine was rebelling.
The clothes were too wet and sometimes there was standing water in the bottom.
My friend Jodie told me it was the pump. (How does she know these things??)
She told it was easy to clean out and even sent me a youtube video.
But still I didn't know.
Cause we're not generally the kind of ppl that just tackle such a job.
We're more like...We'll never figure that out. We better call a guy.
And Honey had a LOT on his plate. So I thought it would be nice if I could figure this one out myself. And then I reasoned, that if we really messed it up we'd call a guy like we were planning on anyway. Nothing to lose, right?
So I called my son and told him that I thought we he could do it. He watched a couple of youtubes and then just tore into it like he's done it a million times! Fearlessly.
And it works!!! He did it!
And we were all impressed.
(Did you notice his little apprentice looking over his shoulder?)
UPDATE: It's back to it's old ways. :-(
Now what?? Jodie? Anybody?

2011 Financial Goals
I've been thinking about some goals for the new year and reviewing my last year's goals.
For this year I'd like my major area of change to be the way I manage our cash budget.
This year was not so great as I was often over budget in one category and had to supplement from another...or from my personal allowance.
I'm not sure just how to do better with the groceries unless we drastically change the way we eat. Honey was not in favor of that idea....and I'm glad. So I will pray for wisdom and be careful with my menuing.
My main goal in managing the cash is to only spend 1/2 of what is in the envelope. That means that I will have to save up double for whatever I want to buy and will be more careful with misc spending.
I've also made a list of purchases that would be nice for 2011.
~wood floors
~gas logs
~porch lights
~bathroom faucets
~new sheets
~floor lamp for dining room
~pressure canner
~more foods from the farmer's market to can. I'm loving my canned foods. So much that I'm a little stingy with them and I hate to empty a jar. That means in order to feed my food-in-jars addiction, I need more food in jars.
~a laptop for Lane. Her's just broke and I'm praying for a new one.
~keyboard upgrade for kids. 3 kids taking piano lessons now and we'd love to have a full-sized keyboard.
~Nourishing Traditions book
Obviously some of these are major and would not come out of the cash budget. And many of these will have to wait. But hopefully having the planned purchases before me will help keep my eyes on the bigger picture.

Good Deals
Go here to print some high dollar coupons for games and toys. My favorite is the $5/1 Pictureka. It is reported that you can get the travel version of this for $.24 at Walmart. My shopping is finished for the week but it's tops on my list for next week. There's also many other game coupons that should make for some frugal gift giving. Common Sense With Money has posted several deals you can get with these coupons.
And this! I love this one. A free 1/2 gallon of chocolate milk when you buy a gallon a milk. Just enter the great gallon giveaway and you should be able to print the coupon here. (Thanks Money Saving Mom) Sorry this one is already gone! These types go fast.
I also wanna point out that there are some good deals and several freebies at Walgreens this week. As for me, I'm finished with WG but if your store is better than mine you need to check it out.
Happy Couponing!

Money Talk
One of our goals for 2010 was to nail down our budget. Before we moved to CO, we worked with a cash envelope system. It worked well until we moved and were living in two separate states. We then moved to a cash back reward credit card for everything. We paid it off every month and that helped Honey track our separate spendings. And because we liked the money we were earning from it, decided to keep it that way for awhile.
This was my inspiration. I didn't do it exactly like she did b/c I'm not going to carry them around in my wallet and because I don't like my wallet anyway and Ineed want a new one. I also didn't use her template. I just found an envelope style I liked and took it apart and traced around it. Here's the back.
So I guess mine isn't like hers at all except that I made them out of scrapbook paper. Anyway... I like 'em!
What does that have to do with money? Hmm, not much. So nevermind. Back to budgeting.
~We set up our new budget this morning taking it down to zero dollars.
~We get paid every 2 weeks so I'll work with that dividing it in half.
~I am trying something new with my menuing and doing it every week instead of every 2 or every month.
~I'm thinking I should be able to cut the food budget by $75/mo b/c of my parents' meat and no diapers!
~The tricky thing about not getting paid monthly is dividing up money for stuff that you just buy once a month. Also excitedly buying too much of a sale item and then forgetting that we're out of toilet paper. That's me. So I made a list of everything I could think of that we think we have to have so I could plan around that better and still have money left on the last week.
When I started writing it all out, I figured we went though 30 gallons of milk, 5 lbs of sour cream, 10 lbs of cottage cheese, 20 lbs of butter, and 20 lbs of cheese every month. I'm thinking we should just buy ourselves a dairy cow and call it a day.
Next step is to be more careful with my list making so I can just shop once a week. I figure I'll just blitz it all in one day and be done with it. Aldi, Walmart, and Sams here we come!
And last but not least, we bought a new car! New for us, but really like 16 years old. It was coming time to have a third car for teenager purposes and we got a screamin' deal from a guy at Honey's office. It's super clean, in great shape, easy to drive with low mileage. Honey will drive it to work and leave the Escape for us. They both get better gas mileage than the van and will help us keep the van in better shape longer.
Well now we're back to the envelope system. We are hoping to save more using cash than we made with our credit card. It's just too easy to whip out a card! Check out these kyuuute envelopes I made!!

Well now that I feel pretty moved in, I'm going to try my hand at bargain shopping in FSM.

Stuff To Do Around Town
Without our stuff and our own house to take care of, I find the time passes slowly. 25 days until we move into our new house and I'm looking for things to do in the meantime. We are trying to keep up with school as much as possible but most of our books are in the moving truck. Here's some ideas I've come up with and I'm hoping you will join in with yours.....
~Library
~Lunch with Honey
~Puppet show at the mall Friday
~Monsters Vs Aliens
~Snow cones
~The fish store
~Laundry at the laundromat. (Washer and dryer in storage) Don't laugh, my kids thought this was great fun years ago when our washer broke!
~What's that new indoor thing at Eastside? Anybody been there?

Cloth Napkins

It's been about 6 months now since we switched to cloth napkins so I thought I'd give a report. These are the cheap wash cloths at WM. I think they were $3 for 18 and I bought 3 sets. They are perfect for napkins.
I had tried cloth before but it didn't work out so well. They were always on the floor and I never knew which were clean and which were dirty. I've found it easier to consider all used ones dirty and not try to save them for the next meal. Also I don't color coordinate them for different people. We just take from the stack.
The green ones are the coveted ones for my toddlers for some reason. Unfortunately there are only 3 green ones.
I like not having to buy paper napkins and constantly throwing them in the trash. That seemed like such a waste. Spills are quickly cleaned up with these b/c they are always at the table. Laundry isn't a big deal. They are small and can be thrown in with just about anything.
I love the different colors when they're all stacked up.

Girl Soap Is On Sale!

It always seems like the soap deals are Irish Spring or Dial. Well not this time!!
Soft Soap Body wash is $3.99 at Walgreens. Buy one and it prints a catalina for free one. Use that one and another prints and so on and so on. You can roll this deal as much as you like. I've done 3 so far and plan to head out tomorrow for more.
Also I think the Dove deal is still good through tomorrow. I'm hoping my store still has some soap in stock.

Free Soap!

Walgreens is running a Register Rewards deal all month on selected Dove products. I've read about several coupon match up scenarios but this one is the easiest.
Buy 8 single bars of Dove soap at $1.19 each
Pay $9.52 + tax.
Get $10.oo Register Rewards!
There are tons of Dove MQs out there if you want to work up another deal. The travel sizes aren't working for the RR deal, but I used a $1/1 MQ on travel sized deodorant and got it free.
Happy shopping!

Spending Challenge
Here we are in the middle of the month. While my grocery spending is so-so right now, it's not as good as last month. In order to beat last month's total of $863, I will have to spend no more than $136 with 15 days to go.
Can I do it? I *think* so. I really REALLY want to. I feel pretty well stocked up thanks to last month's chicken sales and a good coupon deal at Target.
My challenges will be b-day foods that I haven't purchased yet and company coming next week.
My plan? Eat up everything we have and plan my menus around that. Be creative with leftovers and don't go overboard on stocking up the sale items. That one's hard b/c I reap such benefit from my stockpile.
What I won't do is compromise nutrition or make things unpleasant for my husband. And if there is a great deal for my stockpile, I won't pass up that "investment" just to meet my own personal challenge.
Have you ever seen this blog? Jane is able to feed her family of 4 on $800 a year! And no, her husband does not kill all their meat. It's fun to follow and encouraging to see so many deals out there. My budget is quite extravagant compared to hers.
How's your grocery budget looking? Want to join me in a low spending challenge for the rest of March?
Today's meals...
breakfast - peanut butter toast, cottage cheese, and canned peaches
lunch - tuna sandwiches
dinner - chicken taco casserole (a new recipe), refried beans (leftovers), and salad.
tea - animal crackers and milk

Nevermind
I'm recalling the Southbeach coupon deal at Walgreens. The coupon is for a box of 6 bars and Walgreens only carries the 5 bar box. Too bad.
The other ones work though, I promise!
